Shield and Protect, The History of the Essex Yeomanry
Our speaker on the 11th of March is Stephen Keoghane who, in 2024, produced an excellent book about the Essex Yeomanry. The Yeomanry were Essex’s Territorial Cavalry Force and served with distinction in both of the World Wars. In the First they became renown for a dismounted bayonet charge in the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915, halting the German assault and in April 1917 they took part in one of the last big cavalry actions helping to capture Monchy-le-Preux near Arras.
In the Second World War the Essex Yeomanry served in several theatres of operation, as artillery.
Stephen Keoghane served may years in a Yeomanry Regiment as a medical officer, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 2016. He currently works for the NHS as a consultant surgeon.
This meeting is at The Village Hall, Maldon Road, Hatfield Peverel, CM3 2HP, starting at 8pm.
Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
