'Revisiting the Ludendorff Offensives, March - July 1918 by Professor David Stevenson'

This talk by Professor Stevenson will re-examine the five offensives launched by the German army on the Western Front in spring-summer 1918. It will consider the planning process on both the German and the Allied sides, and the plans' implementation, highlighting the reasons for the offensives' failure. It will argue that that failure was a crucial reason for the First World War ending at the time and in the circumstances that it did.

Professor Stevenson's main fields of interests lie in international relations in Europe during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; origins, course, and impact of the First World War.
