John Chester is Chairman of the Spalding and South Lincolnshire Branch of the WFA, and a Deacon in the Baptist Church. He is also well known as the Cenotaph Parade Marshal at the WFA’s annual Armistice Day commemorations at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. Over the last 27 years of public speaking, he has visited just about every branch of the WFA, delivering informative talks on a variety of subjects.
In this evenings talk, John will be describing how Britain, France, Germany and other countries produced many pictures and postcards depicting the many and varied roles and duties allocated to women during World War One, as well as showing changes to the various domestic fronts during the War. This talk looks at some of these and explains the thinking behind their production.
Western Front Association Members and non-members are equally welcome. We ask for a modest £4 donation on the door. Any new visitors will be assured of an welcoming and friendly atmosphere among a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
