Italy's Somme: The Twelve Battles of the Isonzo
This month Tom Isitt returns with a talk examining the futile 28-month long campaign waged by the Italians against the Austro-Hungarians in the region of the Isonzo river valley, which cost them 300,000 killed, and also looks at the British men and women involved.
Tom is a journalist-turned-book-author with a particular interest in the immediate post-war battlefields, their clearances and the returning refugees. On his previous visits to the Branch he has talked on 'Riding the Zone Rouge', a cycle race through the devastated battlefields of the Western Front in 1919 and his 'Travels Along the Italian Front'.
Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
