The London Blitz 1917
The talk will highlight the advantages/disadvantages of the use by the Germans of Zeppelins. It will explain that the aircraft which were heavier than air, showed their superiority over the lighter airships. It will also try to explain why during the first Zeppelin raids, the UK had no air defence except the anti aircraft guns which in some cases caused as much damage as the German bombs
It will also discuss the Naval bombardments of both the East and West coast of the country.
Our Speaker Paul who is a member of the Branch, was born in 1946 in Uttoxeter, and attended local schools culminating in various academic successes including HNC, O.U. BA, and diploma in education cert. Paul has worked in various mechanical engineering rolls at Pirelli ,JCB. Rolls Royce, Twyfords and Crewe Locomotive works until he took early retirement in 2008.
Paul has always had an interest in astronomy, railways and history (particularly the navy) and he has been a member of Crewe Historical Society, since its conception in the late 1980's where he now holds the position of Chair.
All are welcome to attend this event and everyone is guaranteed a warm welcome with the doors opening at 6.30pm ready for a 7pm start.
