'Insane – a legacy of three years’ service’ by Richard Crompton
02 Feb

For our February branch meeting, local member Richard Crompton will turn our attention to the Australian Imperial Force and the long-term consequences of the war in his talk ‘Insane – a legacy of three years’ service’.

This account examines the war of Tom Blackman, as a stretcher-bearer on Gallipoli and as a line officer at the Battle of Polygon Wood, which resulted in his shell-shock. It moves on to look at his treatment whilst living for 50 years in various institutions, together with post-war reflections on shell-shock.

All members and guests are welcome to join this meeting. Doors open around 13.40 and we do ask for a donation of £4.00 on the door to cover room hire, refreshments etc.
