Branch Outing: Visit to The Duke of Wellington Regimental Museum in Halifax
Our August 2025 meeting will take place at the 'Duke of Wellingtons's Museum in Halifax.
Apart from the obvious reasons for visiting a museum, on this occasion we are also hoping to hand over to the curators, some private and personal letters sent by one of the Dukes young Officers, fighting in France in The Great War, to his young lady back in England, and her letters back to him in France. these wonderful an historic letters, were obtained by our branch treasurer Mr Colin Carbert, from one of our late branch members some while back. Colin has now transcribed these letters, and is now wanting to gift the original documents to the museum for posterity, and to keep in their collection. Sadly this young man did not return home to his lady, making these letters very special to her. Both of their names will be reviled on the day.
So, anyone wishing to join us for this visit, is very welcome to come along on the day, and join in, to witness Colin and the branch, hand over these wonderful and informative Great War artefacts to the staff.
Our branch members, WFA members, friends of the branch, and anyone wishing to join us will be most welcome. We ask you to making your own way to the museum, which is:
