The 2nd Leicesters in Mesopotamia
Our presentation this month will be given by Mr Nigel Atters.
Nigel is an historian and author, with a great knowledge of the conflict the British and Commonwealth Armies endured against The Otterman Armies.
He will be talking to us about the 2nd Battalion Leicester Regiment, who fought and died in their thousands against the Otterman Empire in Mesopotamia and Palestine, and who’s knowledge on this subject is second to none.
He will also be telling us about the horrendous conditions that the 2nd Battalion had to endure whilst fighting the Turks, and of the competence and overall abilities of the enemies that opposed them.
He will also tell of the horrendous losses sustained by the British and commonwealth armies, and of the over 40,000 names of unidentified men on the Basra Memorial. Which is by far, greater than those named on the Tyne Cot memorial in Belgium. This is a story of hardship, bravery, and death. A sober look at history, and one not to be missed.
