The Last VC Awarded by Queen Victoria
The presentation at our meeting today will be given by Mr Ronnie Walsh, who will be telling us of the life of Private Charles Burley Ward V.C. A Leeds lad who in 1900 was serving in South Africa with the K.O.Y.L.I. regiment in the Boer War. Ronnie will be relating the army service, and heroic deeds of Private Ward, and how he won his medal. He will also tell another story of the life and times of Charles B Ward after his military service, and the profound change his civilian life took. This is a story not to be missed and one you will remember for a very long time.
If you would like to attend any of our Monthly Meetings on the first Saturday of each month throughout the year, please come and visit us.
You are assured a warm and friendly welcome from our members and guests, and will be able to enjoy many interesting and informative talksfrom our invited speakers.
These presentations are then followed by a Q&A session, and a lively interaction on the day subject between our invited guest and our members.
Membership of The Western Front Association is optional and not essential for anyone wishing to come to any of our branch meetings.
I would say however, that membership of the WFA is of great benefit to anyone wishing to research into the military past of family members, or if you are wanting to dig deeply into people and events in and around the Great War.
Also the support and information you can obtain from the current membership, trustees, and publications, is second to none. And with easy access to the many documents now available to the association on its new website, membership has a great many things to offer.
Furthermore, both the magazines accompanying membership,Bulletin and Stand To! are regularly sent to members throughoutthe year, and are a great source of article's and information about the Great War, and all those who were involved.
