The Last VC Awarded by Queen Victoria
The presentation at our meeting today will be given by Mr Ronnie Walsh, who will be telling us of the life of Private Charles Burley Ward V.C. A Leeds lad who in 1900 was serving in South Africa with the K.O.Y.L.I. regiment in the Boer War. Ronnie will be relating the army service, and heroic deeds of Private Ward, and how he won his medal. He will also tell another story of the life and times of Charles B Ward after his military service, and the profound change his civilian life took. This is a story not to be missed and one you will remember for a very long time.
Anyone who would like to attend any of our Monthly Meetings, will be shown a warm and friendly welcome by all of our branch members, and regular guests. You can be sure of a lively and conducive atmosphere, with plenty of interesting and enlightening presentations throughout the year, which you can join into during the “Q & A” session following the presentation by our invited speaker. Full membership of ‘The Western Front Association’ is completely optional, and is not essential, for non member wishing to come to any of our meetings. I would say however, that membership of the WFA is very beneficial to anyone wishing to dig deeper into the military past of family members, or you are wanting to research events in and around the Great War. Also the support available, and the information you can obtain from the current membership and trustees, is both helpful and extensive. Furthermore, both the magazines accompanying membership Bulletin and Stand To! which are regularly sent to members throughout the year, are a great source of article's, information and ideas.
