ONLINE: Turning Points 1916
The presentation will be live and online.
The Turning Points lecture series continues with 1916. From the furnace of Verdun to the blood soaked fields of the Somme; from the clash of dreadnoughts at Jutland to the shattering power of the Brusilov Offensive, 1916 forced the warring powers to confront the brutal realities of modern warfare. But this lecture goes beyond the familiar headlines.
It asks where the war could have turned and why it did not. By tracing both the famous set piece battles and the lesser known moments when strategy, morale, technology, and political judgement hung in the balance, we uncover how 1916 reshaped the conflict and set the terms for victory and defeat in the First World War.
This presentation, by Dr Spencer Jones follows on from the highly successful 'Turning Points 1914' and 'Turning Points 1915 which Spencer presented previosuly.
