Our Troops Reach Mons, by Georges Licope | 21 August 1914 | Episode 10
Published on 21 August 1914
Georges Licope, who, with Leon Pepin, founded the War Museum at Mons, has a unique story to tell, for as a boy of fourteen he was in the garden of his house when a British cavalry patrol was first sighted. These Lancers were the earliest British troops to be welcomed by the Belgian inhabitants of the suburbs of Mons, and M. Licope describes in thrilling fashion the scenes of enthusiasm which their arrival evoked.
