Anthony R Hossack joined the Queen Victoria Rifles in 1914 and served on the Western Front from early 1915 until he was wounded in 1917. He was again at the front in February 1918 serving with a Machine-Gun Battalion of the 9th (Scottish) Division.
His most vivid recollection of the horrors of war was his experience of the first German gas attack, here most dramatically described.
He was taken prisoner in the battle for Mount Kemmel in April 1918.
