Samuel Quinn died of wounds on this day in 1915
Samuel Quinn was born 10 July 1894, Burnley, the son of George and Sarah Jane. At the 1901 Census it would appear that father, mother, Samuel and his 66 year old grandfather were resident in the Chorlton Union Workhouse.
At the time of his enlistment 13 years later the family were living at 12 Anne Street, Fulledge, Burnley.
After enlisting into his local territorial battalion in the early days of the war, Samuel landed at Gallipoli in May 1915 and fought in two of the Battles of Krithia.
Wounded in August 1915, Samuel died at sea whilst on board the hospital ship SS Formosa evacuating him from the peninsular on 14 August 1915.
He was buried at sea and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
