The British Mercantile Marine in the Great War

During the Great War Britain's Mercantile Marine played a key role in maintaining essential supplies to the United Kingdom in the face of the threats posed by the Imperial German Navy. This presentation looks at that role. It also examines the realities of war for merchant shipping and merchant mariners, especially in the North Atlantic. The casualty count and what happened to the Mercantile Marine after the war are also covered.
