Welcome to the Ox & Bucks branch of The Western Front Association.  

We are pleased to be offering a wide and varied calendar of speakers over the period 2022/ 2023 with many diverse topics. Our Branch additionally has an annual get-together in August where we meet and enjoy a chat over a coffee or perhaps something stronger!

Details of our venue can be found below. We ask for a £4 door donation to cover the speaker costs, hall hire and the refreshments.

We welcome Dr Anne Samson to our branch. Her presentation is on an aspect of the Great War sadly overlooked, The Great War in Africa. The first small arms fire by a British Empire soldier in WW1 took place in Togoland on August 7th, 1914. It was fired by Alhaji Grunshi, serving in the Gold Coast Regiment.

Alan discusses an operation that did not achieve its aims fully, but provided the Allies with both a moral boast and publicity potential. Designed to prevent German submarines from leaving Bruges, the sinking of block ships in the mouth of the canal between Zeebrugge and the submarine pens in Bruges was only partially successful.
