Historian Ian Castle made his speaking debut in Scotland on Sunday 29th March 2026 and delivered an outstanding presentation to an Edinburgh audience about the Zeppelin attack on the city - almost 110 years to the day.

Ian's talk explored the dramatic events during the night of 2-3rd April 1916 when low cloud foiled a raid on the new naval dockyard at Rosyth. Instead, Zeppelins L14 and L22 of the Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial Navy) selected the port of Leith and the Scottish capital for their bombs - leaving 14 dead and 23 injured, Scotland's first air raid casualties. Material damage amounted to an estimated £73, 000.

News of Ian's visit generated great interest and the Scotland (South) branch recorded its highest attendance for many years, with attendees travelling to the event from as far afield as Tayside, Northumberland and Durham.
