Field-Marshall Wully Robertson

Field Marshal Sir William Robert Robertson, 1st Baronet, GCB, GCMG, GCVO, DSO (29 January 1860 – 12 February 1933) was a British Army officer who served as Chief of the Imperial General Staff (CIGS) – the professional head of the British Army – from 1916 to 1918 during the First World War.

"Wully" Robertson is most usually remembered as the only man so far ever to have risen from the very bottom rank of a private to a field marshal.

Our speaker Dr John Spencer is a British military historian and researcher who focuses extensively on the operational logistics, high command structures, and key military figures of the First World War, and is recognized as a prominent guest speaker and contributor across multiple regional branches of the WFA.
