Speaker: Steven Orange
So 2 Copy

Stories and experiences from this unique campaign in which the Territorials fought against the Turks from January 1916 to March 1917. The talk will focus on a territorial battalion, the 5th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, with the 52nd (Lowland) Division; how it recovered, reformed, refitted and prepared after the traumas of Gallipoli; engaging with the Ottomans; changing priorities in the campaign; battalion life in the trials of the conditions in Egypt, including on the march across the Sinai; and the beginning of the advance into Palestine.
Steven was encouraged to join our branch in recent years by Professor John Derry. He is a member of the branch committee. Before his retirement, his career was in the Law. He serves as a Presbyterian Minister.
