Devilry Thy Name is Germany: The Origins of Gas Warfare

Speaker: Tony Ball
Picture1

Devilry Thy Name is Germany! was the headline used by the Daily Mirror (21 May 1915) to break the news of a new form of warfare deployed by the dastardly Hun. The talk will be a layman’s guide to the origins and deployment of battle gas during the Great War. It covers the types of gas, delivery mechanisms, and gas defences. The effectiveness of gas in battles and the trenches is evaluated. The roles of key figures will also be considered.

Tony is a stalwart member of the branch. He served as Branch Chairman for many years and is a regular and very popular speaker.
