Arthur Hutt VC
This talk focuses on Arthur Hutt VC and his actions during the Battle of Broodseinde on 4 October 1917. The battle formed part of the British advance towards Passchendaele on the Ypres Salient. Fighting was intense along a wide front from Poelcapelle to Polygon Wood.
Amid fierce resistance, units attacked fortified German strongpoints and pillboxes.
During the assault south of Poelcapelle, Private Arthur Hutt assumed command of his platoon. He led a successful attack on a German stronghold near Terrier Farm. His leadership and bravery under fire proved decisive. These actions earned Arthur Hutt the Victoria Cross.
