Welcome to our new Vice-President, Prof Stephen Badsey

23 April 2026

We are delighted to announce that at the recent Annual General Meeting of The Western Front Association, it was overwhelmingly agreed that Professor Stephen Badsey, Emeritus Professor of Conflict Studies at the University of Wolverhampton,  should become a Vice-President of the association.

Prof Stephen Badsey

Stephen is very well known to many members, having spoken at branches, numerous WFA conferences and on our webinars. He has also written extensively on the history of warfare from the Franco-Prussian War to the present day.

A PhD graduate of Cambridge University, from 1980-84, in his first job after leaving university, he was a Research Assistant in the Department of Information Retrieval, Imperial War Museum, London. This mainly involved researching and cataloguing the museum collection of films of the First World War, a catalogue that was published in 1994. This started Stephen's lifelong association with classic British propaganda documentaries, in particular Battle of the Somme (1916) and with film and television in military history.

Some of Stephen's lectures and talks can be found here on The Western Front Association's website: Presentations by Prof Stephen Badsey
