First World War burials and rededication ceremonies in September and October 2026

The JCCC (otherwise known as 'The War Detectives') have announced the following burials and re-dedications will be taking place in September and October of soldiers killed in the Great War. These ceremonies are always moving events and can be attended by the general public.

22 September

10.30am – a rededication service for Private George Pert of the 7th Battalion The Seaforth Highlanders who was killed in action on 20 October 1918. This service will take place at Harlebeke New British Cemetery, Belgium.

2pm – a rededication service for 2/Lt Frank Fleming of 4th Battalion (attached 7th Battalion) The Seaforth Highlanders, who was killed in action on 11 April 1918. This service will take place at Voormezeele Enclosure No.3, Belgium.

24 September

11am – a burial service for Private George Fleming Brock and Private Percy Todd, both of 11th Battalion The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, as well as two unknown soldiers of The Gordon Highlanders, and a further two unknown Scottish soldiers. These men are all believed to have been killed during the Spring Offensive in 1918. This service will take place at Point du Jour Cemetery, Athies, France.

13 October

2pm – A burial service for Lance Corporal Claude Stanley Dell of 5th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, who was killed in action on 25 April 1915. This service will take place at Poelcapelle British Cemetery, Belgium.

14 October

2pm – A burial service for an unknown soldier of the West Yorkshire Regiment. This service will take place at Serre Road No. 2 Cemetery, France.

20 October

1pm – A burial service for Private George McIntosh of 8th Battalion The Bedfordshire Regiment, who was killed in action on 19 April 1917, and an unknown soldier of The Bedfordshire Regiment. This service will take place at Loos British Cemetery Extension, France.

21 October

11am – A burial service for Private Percy Tolliday of 11th Battalion The Middlesex Regiment, who was killed in action on 4 October 1916, and 2 unknown soldiers. This service will take place at Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.
