John Fawcett was killed in action on this day in 1915
John was born in 1882 in Burnley, Lancashire to parents Frank and Pricilla (née Robinson). He was the oldest of three, with sisters Annie and Ada. In 1902, at age 20, John enlisted in the Lancashire Fusiliers.
According to the 1911 census, John, now aged 29, had left the army and was married to Mary Jane; both were working as cotton weavers and they had two children, Thomas, 2 and John, 10 months. They lived at 5 Gisburn Street, Barnoldswick, Lancashire.
On the outbreak of war, John was a recalled to the army. He served in France and Flanders from September 1914 and was killed in action at 'Snipers House', Le Touquet on 13 February 1915.
John is buried at Tancrez Farm Cemetery.
