Fri, 10/09/2021 07:59The Snipe was the last rotary engine RAF fighter. Radial engines are static and rotary spin with the propeller.

Sun, 25/07/2021 21:40This aircraft is actually a Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe with Lt. Mulcair, A Flight, No. 43 Squadron, taken in October 1918. Only 500 were ever built – the last RAF fighters to have a radial engine, and their mediocre performance led to complete withdrawal by 1926. This particular aircraft however is an amazing survivor and in 2020 can still be found in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington albeit now re-painted with an alternative number.
