In this lecture, Prof Peter Simkins takes a look at the Scottish battalions which were formed following Kitchener's appeal for volunteers to join the colours on the outbreak of World War 1. A number of 'Scottish' divisions were formed and these are looked at in great detail.
The problems encountered during training (lack of accommodation, weapons) and performance in battle are also discussed.
