This presentation gives an account of not just of the Suez Canal's place in British strategy and the battle itself but also of the soldiers' experiences in Egypt.
For the Territorials from East Lancashire this was their first time abroad. For the Indian regulars this was their first active service outside of India, Afghanistan, or Burma, and the first time they would face a regular army, organised in a manner similar to themselves.
Yet this hastily organised defence was successful.
