The Western Front Association's Armistice Day 2025 ceremony at the Cenotaph

Published on 11 November 2025

Although the rain threatened, we were once again lucky with the weather for our Armistice Commemoration this year. Large crowds gathered in Whitehall. The staff of the Ministry of Defence Main Building turned out in force. Schools, Cadets and Branch Chairs laid wreathes as did representatives from the Sikh, Chinese, Muslim, West Indian ex-service community and other invited groups.

Antiques Roadshow medal expert Mark Smith, Rt-Hon. John Healey Secretary of State for Defence and Vice-Presidents Mungo Melvin, Lord Astor and Lady Lucy French were amongst the VIP group.

As is traditional, the London Scottish added to the atmoshere with the 'Flowers of the Forest' solo piper being particularly poignant.

The Parade Marshall Rob Nash and his new assistant did the usual professional job of getting the numerous contingents in place exactly on time, The Last Post was sounded by the Royal Marine bugler and the King’s Squadron RAF provided the Cenotaph party.
