"The plan for the recapture of the Falkland Islands from the Argentine invaders of 1982 included taking a specialist Royal Engineer (RE) air support unit to the South Atlantic and building a Forward Operating Base (FOB) on land for use by the famous Harrier ‘jump jets’ of the RAF and the Royal Navy.
11 Field Squadron RE, would travel by air to Ascension Island and thence by sea to the Falkland Islands. At the same time, their vehicles and equipment, along with the engineer stores needed for the task would be moved to the Islands in a massive, requisitioned container ship, the SS ‘Atlantic Conveyor’. Biography
 Having grown up in Knutsford Cheshire, Stan left there to join the Junior Leaders Regt Royal Engineers in Sept 1976, in Dover. Following combat engineer training completion at Cove he was then posted to 30 Field Sqn RE in Iserlohn in Jan 1978. There were tours of N. Ireland and Canada and various trade courses attended. In late 1981 he was then posted to 11 Field Sqn RE in Ripon and served on Op Corporate and in Kenya before volunteering for Bomb Disposal at 49 EOD sqn RE in Chattenden then Stan  I left the Army in Nov 86 at the dizzy heights of L/Cpl and spent 30 years + in the fire protection industry installing, planning, and eventually selling and running fire sprinkler
