The War of the Flowers

Today we all associate the Royal British Legion Poppy with Remembrance of the Dead and support for veterans and their families, yet few of us are aware of how this floral symbol actually came about.  Even fewer Brits know anything about how a cornflower is associated with remembrance and support for those who fought for France during two world wars – and beyond.  This talk tells the story of these two simple flowers and the women who fought (sometimes almost literally) for them to become part of our national life.
