Forward into this Valley of the Shadow of Death

Speaker: Sean Corkerry

On the 111th anniversary of Britain's entry into the Great War, Lancaster Historian Shaun Corkerry examines the slide into war in the Lancaster area using the archives of the Lancaster Guardian. He looks at attitudes to the War, the dawning realisation of a long conflict, the effects on local families and how the War was portrayed in the media of the time.

The presentation covers the period August 1914 to the end of 1915 and the talk is illustrated with contemporary photographs, maps and first-hand accounts.

Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
