German Tanks at Villers-Bretonneux

Speaker: Chris Johns
June 2026.2

At the Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux in April 1918, a key event in the German Spring Offensive, German and British tanks met in combat for the first time. The German tanks, like the famous "Mephisto", initially achieved surprising results. This is an account of the development of German armoured vehicles and their only serious use on the battlefields of the Western Front.
