The Raid on Zeebrugge
This talk explains the heroic raid to prevent German U Boats accessing the North Sea through the port of Zeebrugge, by the use of old Navy ships sunk into the mouth of the canal. The raid was initially successful but at a large cost to the attacking Royal Marines and Royal Navy. Subsequently the Germans were able to move the block ships and dredge a route out of the canal but this could only be used at high tide. Among the 200 plus gallantry awards were eight Victoria Crosses indicating the ferocity of the raid.
