A.G.M. Fighting For Hill 60 April 17th to May 7th 1915

Hill 60 is one of three railway spoil heaps near Ypres. It sits on the 60-metre contour line, the highest point of the Ridge and in 1915, it was 750 feet long. 300 feet across, and at its highest point about 55 feet above the surrounding ground. In 1915, German possession of this high ground provided them with unparalleled artillery observation across the strategic southwestern section of the Ypres Salient where most of the BEF was concentrated.
