Andy Prada: British, French and German Engineering in the Loos Salient 1914-18

Towards the end of 1914, the war of movement on the Western Front, became one of 'position', as the Germans themselves described trench warfare. The efforts of the infantry became largely subordinate to those of the German Pioniere, French Génie, and British Sappers as they took the war underground between Lens and La Bassée. This presentation looks at the units that were involved in this development, and how all sides had to adapt to the very trying circumstances in which they found themselves, in what was essentially a three dimensional static battle space.
