Great War Military Commanders at the Battle of Omdurman 1898

Speaker: Peter Hart
Sudan Battle

They weren’t always old! Great War generals were once young and they fought in their own battles. One of the most murderous was the Battle of Omdurman, 2 September 1898. See how the likes of Haig, Kitchener, Churchill, Townshend, Maxse, and Smith-Dorrien fared when facing thousands of Dervishes.

This lecture is based on Peter's book Chain of Fire: Campaining in Egypt and the Sudan 1882 - 1898.

The book will be published early in 2025. Richard van Emden's review states, 'A historian at the peak of his powers'.

Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
