Crime, Punishment, and Military Law. 1914-18.

Speaker: Peter Fellowes
Pf 2604 H

Law impacts every member of the armed forces, from the Commander-in-Chief down to the newest recruit. This talk will explain why it exists and will introduce 20th-century military law, both in peace and war. Court Martials and Capital Punishment will be covered.

Our speaker examines how the 1881 Army Act was a significant piece of legislation that restructured the British Army, its administration, and discipline.  Finally, he will show that not everything you read in a book may be the truth.

After twenty-five years serving in the British Army, Peter Fellowes embarked on a second career in the UK Ports and Maritime Industry. Soon after retirement in 2014, he joined the WFA to learn more and broaden his interest in the First World War.
