In this talk, David seeks to explore the intense underground fighting in the months prior to July 1916 on the Somme Front and consider the use of mines by Fourth Army during the Battle itself.

After many years as an active member of Northumberland WFA, David is now part of the Cleveland Branch. He has been visiting the battlefields for over 35 years and has an MA in Britain and the First World War from Wolverhampton University.
