The U-Boat Campaign & Anti-Submarine Strategy, Tactics & Operations in the Great War

Speaker: Scott Lindgren
S05

The maritime Great War 1914-18 saw the first truly three-dimensional warfare in human history, with the first submarine 'guerre de course' being a particular feature of the conflict. Controversial then and now, the effectiveness of the campaign and the Allied attempts to develop effective countermeasures to the new underwater challenge is the subject of much debate in popular and academic circles alike. This talk provides a short overview of the campaigns, key incidents, figures, the eventual defeat of the submarines, and an assessment of its effectiveness.

Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
