Red Trousers - The French Army in 1914

Speaker: Simon House
French Soldiers 1914

During the first month of the Great War the French Army lost five major battles and suffered countless casualties before the tide turned at the Battle of the Marne in early September. This talk explains why the French Army was so chronically ill-prepared for the war that broke out in August 1914.

Meetings take place at Highworth Community Centre, The Dormers, Highworth, Wiltshire SN6 7PE. There is parking on site at the front as well as behind the building. Doors open by 13.40 and we usually have a break for refreshments part way through the talk or before Q&A. We ask for a donation of £4.00 on the door to cover room hire etc. All members and guests are most welcome.
