A Sailor in the Great War

Speaker: Pete MacCormac
Fire Room Massachusetts

In this talk, Pete tells the story of his wife's great uncle, Frederick Thomas Yapp who, though born in Worcester in 1889, spent much of his early life in London.

Things were tough for the Yapp family in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  As for many young men in such circumstances, the military was an escape from an austere existence, so, in 1909, Frederick joined the Royal Navy as a stoker.

Pete will take us through Frederick’s pre-war naval career, with the help of his military records, and look at his war service, including the actions he was involved in.

Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome.

Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.

We look forward to welcoming you to our branch meetings.
