Joshua Crossley died of illness on this day in 1914
Joshua Crossley was born in 1898 in Bolton-by-Bowland, Yorkshire, the son of John Crossley, a farmer, and his wife, Mary née Lawson. He had an older sister, Jane, and a younger brother, John Henry.
The family lived on the father's farm, Cottams, in Grindleton, a village near Clitheroe in Lancashire. They had a live-in domestic servant and a boarder, a teacher from Sedburgh.
In 1911, Joshua was a schoolboy. He later worked on his father's farm as a farm labourer prior to the war.
Joshua enlisted, under-age, on 19 September 1914 He died of measles six weeks later at in isolation hospital at Frensham Camp near Aldershot whilst undergoing training.
He is buried in Aldershot Military Cemetery.
Joshua was just 16 years of age when he died.
