WFA Commemoration of The Unknown Warrior's arrival at Victoria Station
The photograph below (taken on 10 November 2000) shows the unveiling of the plaque to commemorate the arrival of The Unknown Warrior (The Unknown Soldier) at Platform 8 at Victoria Station on 10 November 1920.
The unknown warrior was transported from Dover to London's Victoria Station on board the 'Cavell Van' on 10 November 1920
A Guard of Honour stayed overnight with him prior to his journey to Westminster Abbey the following day on 11 November 1920. The Chelsea Pensioner seated to the right of the plaque was last surviving soldier of that Guard of Honour.
Each year on 10 November at about 8.15 pm there is a wreath laying ceremony conducted by the WFA at Victoria Station to commemorate the event.
