Third Ypres: A Warning from History
In this talk Rob Thompson looks at the logistics and engineering that occurred in support of the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele)
The Third Battle of Ypres, also known as the Battle of Passchendaele, was a brutal and costly World War I offensive launched by the British and their allies against German forces in Belgium from July to November 1917. The battle is infamous for its horrific conditions, marked by relentless rain that at times turned the battlefield into a muddy quagmire, and for the staggering number of casualties on both sides.
While the Allies aimed to break through German lines and capture key strategic points, the offensive ultimately failed to achieve its major objectives, leaving behind a legacy of immense suffering and strategic questioning.
