Welsh miners on the Western Front
Ritchie Wood gives us the story of the Welsh miners before, during, and after the First World War.
Welsh miners played a crucial, multifaceted role before, during, and after World War I. Before the war, they faced difficult working conditions and labour disputes, but their skills were vital to the war effort.
During the war, many volunteered or were conscripted into tunnelling companies, undertaking dangerous work on the Western Front. After the war, they returned to a changed landscape, facing unemployment and hardship as the coal industry declined.
