Schools Quality Mark
The Western Front Association Quality Mark celebrates schools that demonstrate exceptional commitment to teaching and learning about the First World War. Designed to recognise and support meaningful, accurate and engaging historical education, the award reflects the WFA’s mission to deepen public understanding of the Great War. Schools undertaking this process join a growing community dedicated to preserving the stories, lessons and legacy of 1914–1918 for future generations.
The Western Front Association Quality Mark
The Western Front Association Quality Mark offers schools the opportunity to gain formal recognition for the strength and depth of their teaching and learning about the First World War. This award reflects the WFA’s central mission: to educate the public about the Great War of 1914–1918 and to support high-quality historical understanding in schools.
Schools can submit their audit for consideration during two annual windows:
- 1 September – 31 December
- 1 March – 31 July
All submissions are assessed by experienced education professionals, and there is currently no charge for taking part. Every school that applies will receive developmental feedback by 28 February or 30 September, depending on the submission window.
Schools that meet the criteria for the Quality Mark will receive:
- A plaque
- A certificate
- A logo for use on school stationery and documentation
- A draft press release
- Publicity in WFA publications and on social media
- Priority entry into the draw for an invitation to bring students to the annual Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph
- Priority access to other invitations and opportunities as they arise
Accreditation is valid for three years.
If your school would like to work towards the WFA Quality Mark, simply download the correct application for their institution (Primary or Secondary), complete it in full and submit it for review.
