More on silver badges

Speaker: Andrew Grantham
Silver War Badge

This talk will examine the history of the Silver War Badge from its inception in 1916 and its development through to the last issue in 1923 and its legacy. Illustrated with examples from Andrew's own collection, the talk will focus on the British Army issue and the men who earned them. With over a million issued, silver war badges cover every facet of the Great War.

Andrew Grantham is a local WFA member who has been collecting badges for 30 years and has over 800 in his collection. He will be illustrating his talk with a few examples of the more interesting/unusual ones and those of local men. His collection includes themes such as the Christmas Truce, Prisoners of War, Old Contemptibles, 'Time Expired Men', and Badge holders who earned their medals in earlier campaigns.

You don't have to be a Member of The Western Front Association to attend our meetings as all are equally welcome. Do come along and enjoy a friendly atmosphere and the good company of fellow enthusiasts.
