Women War Artists

Speaker: Rosemary Chaloner
October

Women war artists of WWI documented the home front, nursing, and munitions work, with Anna Airy and Olive Edis being the only two official war artists, while others like Flora Lion, Clare Atwood, Norah Neilson Gray, and Joyce Dennys worked behind the lines or in support roles, capturing the changing roles of women, often commissioned by bodies like the Imperial War Museum (IWM) to show women's vital contributions in factories and hospitals.
