Verdun 1917: The French Hit Back
Speaker: Christina Holstein
With the failure of the 1916 Verdun offensive the sector became a secondary front for the Germans and provided an opportunity for the French in 1917. The French mutinies earlier that year meant a more limited offensive than had been originally intended but careful planning and training, the massive use of artillery, air power, and high morale, put an end to any remaining hope of German success at Verdun and, with American observers already present, it paved the way for the Franco-American Meuse-Argonne offensive of September 1918.
Members and non-members of The Western Front Association are equally welcome. Any new visitors are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
