The University of Chester, in collaboration with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, is offering a rare fully funded PhD studentship exploring war, commemoration, and international relations.

This project will particularly suit students with a background in Modern History, International Relations, Military History, Social and Cultural History, as well as Memory and Heritage Studies.

The studentship provides an opportunity to develop both academic expertise and public-facing history and research skills. The successful candidate will work closely with both academic and heritage professionals, gaining valuable experience in applied historical research.

Applicants should hold a good undergraduate degree (minimum 2:1) and a master’s qualification in a relevant discipline. (Due to visa and funding restrictions, this opportunity is unfortunately not open to international students who require a visa to study in the UK.)

The studentship is open to applicants regardless of location, and anyone interested is welcome to have a chat with Professor Tim Grady before applying.

Apply by Tuesday, 1 April 2025.
