Battle of Jutland: a view from the 32nd Division

Speaker: Stephen Clifford
Jutland

The Battle of Jutland (31 May – 1 June 1916) was the biggest Naval battle in history with 61,654 men taking part from the British side alone!

Fought in the North Sea off the coast of Denmark’s Jutland Peninsula, arguments regarding the course and effects of the battle continue to this day.

An insight into these different views of the battle will be laid out during the talk.

The view the 32nd New Army Division on the Western Front had of the action, will be interestingly discussed during the talk.

Our speaker is Stephen Clifford.

An alumnus of Lancaster and Leeds Universities in Ancient and Medieval History, the former Keele University administrator focuses on twentieth-century military casualties. His research includes detailing both World War dead commemorated at Madeley Parish Church. He also serves as a volunteer researcher for the Jutland Crew Lists Project, dedicated to identifying and sourcing photographs of Grand Fleet personnel.
